Quote from: Turkeyman on March 14, 2026, 05:52:12 AMWine bottle cork. Cut it to length, cut head off small sheet metal screw, put it in drill, clamp drill, 100 grit sandpaper. Made in minutes. Plus you get to enjoy the wine first. Next one I make I'm gonna try that Yellow Tail fake cork...it seems denser.
Minus drinking wine, I made one very similarly to this yesterday. Works great. I bought a bag of corks on Amazon a few years back for this very purpose.

Box Calls / Box call chalk

What's everyone's recommendation on box call chalk to get. I hear rain chalk is where it's at but don't know where to buy it, if it is what people say it is.

General Forum / Callmakers Summit Reunion
Last post by Spring Creek Calls - March 17, 2026, 03:57:24 PM
Turkey Trot Acres would enjoy having a Callmakers Summit again if there is enough support. Initially, I'd just like to see how many would be interested in attending. The thought is to bring back as many Callmakers as possible from the Summit held a few years back , those in the picture below. They would have first choice for tables and lodging. Hopefully we can garner enough support to make this happen. There are many other turkey hunting forums that could be made aware also but Old Gobbler is the perfect place to begin. If you've never been to Turkey Trot you owe it to yourself to attend!

Initial date discussed  is Saturday June 20th, 2026.
Turkey Trot Acres is located in Candor, NY
Let's hear from ya!

I'm not southern.  But THAT still sucks.

I'm grouching about it being 60°+ yesterday and 20° now with (only) 5 inches of blowing snow.

There's DEFINITELY different levels of "suck".   :-\
When it comes to snow and cold, suck applies universally. It all sucks. Fortunately sun popped out, while temp is cold, snow is melting from that radiant heat.

The Longbeards 2026 / Re: Guns, ammo, calls, gear

I'll be using pretty much all the same gear as the previous seasons.
Remington 870 20ga, TSS 9's
Alps Grandslam vest
Zamberlan boots and TurtleSkin gaiters

I usually rotate between a few different trumpets, I've been using a Pinhoti diaphragm called the last couple years, and I'll rotate through a couple different pot calls. I usually have a Harrison hooter and a crow call made by Daryl on the forum here.

I think that's my basic gear set up. Sometimes I will use my bicycle for certain spots. I also camp out in my truck sometimes.  I'm pretty much hunting local WMA's.
