Title: Repainted my 870
Post by: huntineveryday on May 10, 2020, 03:03:58 PM
I an 870 Express Supermag that I've hunted just about everything with over the last 13 years. It came with a mossy oak duck blind paint job originally, but it had been looking pretty rough. A lot of the paint was faded and had some light colored shine to it, other areas have paint chipped off or wore through. I had some krylon camo spray paint already, so that's what I used. I did finish it off with some brown and green I robbed from the kids' art supplies, but it's a pandemic, what're you going to do?!

First, I stripped the gun down and cleaned it down good, scrubbing every nook and cranny with an acrylic brush, gloved up to keep oils off the gun.

Then I coated it with a tan color. I taped it and gave it 4 coats to get a good base down, then let it dry a few days.

Next, I assembled the parts I wanted to paint and added in some "shadows", then let that dry.

Then I got a sponge, tore it up into different size pieces, and got to work. I sprayed the paint onto disposable plates, dipped the sponge, and added to the gun. I worked my way through all the colors I had, then decided I needed some some brown and lighter green, so I found some and added that. I don't love the green, but I can always cover that up later.

At first I thought I may have overdid it, but after drying I took it outside and played it down against different backgrounds. It seems to work well enough, definately better than what it had before!

It's racked up three turkeys since the paint job, so I'm going to say it works for now!

Sharp.  Where I hunt, no green is no bueno.  It would be perfect to tote in our turkey woods!  Even against that oak it looks very good.  If the bird sees you, now you can't blame the gun!  Very nice job.
