I built this Walnut/Cedar scratch box with the idea of running it as scratchers usually are with a wooden striker block. In an effort to make these things easier to play, I decided to condition and chalk the walnut surface to be able to run a typical pot striker on it. This soundfile is my first attempt running the scratchbox with a Diamondwood & Snakewood pot striker. I think it sounds really good and is as simple to run as any pot call. Curious what you guys think about it? This recording is in the woods, recorder is 20 yards away and I am playing it very softly. I was also moving the striker to various parts of the box, all ran good.
1st part of the recording is Diamondwood, 2nd is the Snakewood striker

Man that sounded really good to me, almost thought you had labeled it wrong and it was not a scratch box.

Thanks, it did surprise me how good it sounded....I guess technically it isn't a scratchbox as it is being run more like a wooden pot/box call.
That sounds great. Love that soft talk.

I love scratch boxes, I am not that great with them though. I have been practicing a lot more with them this year though and think I may be doing better. Calls I want to use this year are scratch boxes, yelpers/trumpets/Smokers and my tongue call to start.

I think these calls have a very unique sound and are promising, I am going to do some experimenting with them as soon as I catch up on trumpets. The way I was running this one is so much easier than how a typical scratcher is worked, I think it has the potential to sound better too. Even though this one sounded good, it does need to be tuned a bit differently.

I look forward to hearing the results.
