Being from Mississippi I have never found any Morels and honestly have never thought to look for them. About a week ago I found 10 or so and decided to go back today to look for more.
My question is can they go bad? See in the picture these are dark and almost look like they're rotting. Is this normal? Still good to eat?
Thanks fellas (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200401/fb7f26dff3e8a96a597b119a0575d68c.jpg)

Yes they can go bad. They mold, break down etc. Not sure why on my phone the pictures are really unclear. They look like black morels though if you're concern was for the shape. Yellows are a few weeks after so it's not over for you. Just a FYI. I really can't see enough to tell much from the pictures.
They look like like yellow morels that are past their prime. Looks like they are drying out and decaying.
oooff those are pretty rough looking. you could eat them if you're desperate. i won't recommend it. i have before, but won't if i see any white mold on them which is a sign it has worms in it
where i'm at in wisconsin i'm spoiled and can be picky in which ones i keep. i only need enough for a few big meals every year. i know guys who take vacation to go hunting and sell them(which i hate)
if they're soft and crumbly they won't cook up very well. firm ones are much better
i'm no expert, but personally i wouldn't eat them
maybe the top left one lol
i've always been told to cut or tear them cleanly further up the stem. helps propagate them in the future. some of those look like they were torn off down in the soil
Wonder why I can't see em. Seems you guys are having no prob. If they're yellows they're beat up
Sounds like I'll be tossing those. I was pretty pumped to find some. Glad to know a spot where they're growing and will definitely be checking it annually now.
This is one that I found last week. Is this a yellow?

if they are firm and not mushy or crumbly with mold they are fine. Look like black variety to me
