has anyone pattern your gun without the choke scewed in ???

Don't! No protection for the threads inside the barrel.

I would find a stock choke of some kind to protect the threads on the barrel if me.

At home defense ranges you won't see a difference in pattern size. They are all tight at 10 feet.
