Have they discontinued the tactical turkey vest they used to carry? I guess the buyout really put cabelas to crap now. Its a shame because the cabelas brand used to be a dang good brand in my opinion. Quality gear and stuff
I think they did. I bought an extra one when I saw they were getting to have limited quantities.

Hard to believe they discontinued it. Bet they sold more of those vests than any.
Yeap bass pro is stupid
Maybe my Tat'r will soon sell for what Dixon vests do! :blob10:
The cabelas store I used to shop at in MN for my hunting gear has totally gone to crap and handle nothing anymore. The big wide open floor full of camouflage clothing when you first come walking in is now full of street cloth. And the little amount of camo clothing they now do have. Is now stuffed back in the corner room that used to be the bargain cave. That used to be just for the discounts and returns when it was the old Cabelas. So I have been in there twice since the buy out and not back since. Bigger is not always better.
Actually I was looking on their site today and noticed that also. I currently have the TAT'R and it is still in good shape but was looking for a backup. I love that vest and I do like the kickstands on it. I know that ALPZ makes one but boy is it expensive.
Those TATR vests were some of the best available. Best seat design out in my opinion.
Surely they haven't done away with them....really great vest. Probably the most user friendly and durable that I have.

I just put an order in for an Alpz through Cabela's. It's going for $180. I saw these Tatr 2 vests are going for $100.
I'm tempted to return the Aplz for the Cabela's one...
The Tatr vests are on the website as of right now.

I bought the Alps and Tactical Tatr at the same time and ended up keeping the Cabelas. Both are great, and each has pluses and minuses over the other one, but in the end the Alps cushion became uncomfortable in about half the time that the Cabelas cushion did. I really liked the kickstand and the design of the vest though

How's the cushion on the cabelas one? Does that one also have a kickstand? I've seen that it does but I can't seem to see it on the photos on cabelas.com
I'm probably gonna but the cabelas one and return the alps one. If there just about the same, I could save myself $80. That's some ammo, or something else I can use it for.
I have a TATR2 I bought off of a guy on here last year. It's an older one in original obsession and my only complaint about the vest is that it's not in bottomland. The 3" memory foam speed seat is a game changer.

How long have you had it for and how much have you punished it? My buddy has one and has zero issues. Just seems so thin. The no shell holders thing stinks too

The cushion on the Cabelas vest is great, and the retention system for it is awesome. I'm speaking specifically about the tactical tatr2 which does not come with a kickstand, but it looks to be the same as the tactical tatr kickstand, just minus the kickstand....so I can't tell you how good that kickstand is on that vest.

Nice! I'm probably gonna get this vest

The Tatr vests are on the website as of right now.
They are, but the one with the kickstand says sold out.
But I checked when the OP posted and they weren't there. Wonder why? :-\
Currently as I type this Cabela's website is showing in stock for the Tatr' 2 vest and I've used one for years
and you can't beat them in my opinion
Just a heads up, I tried ordering one of these vest a few days ago and they said "discontinued". But today I was cruising they're websites, Cabela's and Bass Pro's website. They have a "new" version on Bass Pro site in "timber" camouflage and on Cabela's site they are in stock again today, only size available X/XL in mossy oak obsession. So when I ordered one on the Cabela's site it said $99.00 but it is on sale for $54.99....I asked the woman to double check that price and she said "yep", that's the right price !...... your welcome.... full disclosure: I work as a outfitter at a Cabela's/BassPro store. There has been a lot of "changes" since Bass Pro took over. It hasn't been easy. It will get better. It's a huge transition and it takes time.....patience for the "tenth legion"
Well I decided to just keep my Alps outdoors vest. It was really nice when it arrived in the mail. Excited to give it a try. That cabelas vest sure looks good though. I might just scoop one up too.

I took an elastic shotgun shell holder that goes over the stock and cut it and had my wife sew it inside one of the pockets. Works perfectly.
Im still on the search for the cabelas tactical vest. I see they have it posted on the website again but its in some sort of timber knockoff pattern. Would like one in obsession.
Has anyone got any news on if they are going to discontinue it or come back out with it?
Interested as well. I was trying to research when they start selling the turkey stuff each year and came up empty handed. The only reason I haven't purchased is the pattern.

Agreed. I hope they come back out with it and bass pro hasn't ruined the cabelas version. Im sure manufactures are going to change too.
Well I just ordered it in the strata and will keep the tags on it and if it comes out this spring in mossy oak I'll exchange. Did that to make sure I didn't miss out completely...

It's out on their site but not in Obsession. I have had mine for many years. Some of the material on the bottom and corners is showing signs of wear but it is still going strong. I also tore a little hole in it on barbed wire the first year I got it and that has never ripped any further. I would say it's very high quality. I'll be majorly disappointed if I can't replace it with the same one when it finally wears out.
There is now another model of the Tactical Tat'r out on their website. It's the kickstand version in HTC green. Hopefully that's a sign of more to come as we near turkey season. If they produce another Tat'r 2 Obsession I'm snatching one up to have as a spare.
Was just at my local Cabela's on Wednesday and they had 5-6 Tactical Tat'r Turkey Vests in stock for $100 bucks. I believe 2 of them had the kickstand. I've had mine now for 2 years and absolutely love it. I was fortunate enough to get mine in Mossy Oak Obsession.

Well upon more thinking I returned my grand slam vest and I bought the cabelas tactical tatr2 kickstand vest.
It was $129 vs the $189 for the grand slam. The grand slam cushion was gonna need more padding for my preference. And having that reupholstered was gonna run me near $300 total plus the vest.
If the cabelas cushion is good then great, if I need to get some extra padding in there and it cost me an extra $100 not really complaining about that. I had my butt fall asleep enough last season to want a nice cushion.
Will post pics when it arrives.
The no longer have specific sizes..... in CHEAP BASS PRO SHOPS fashion they are now one size fits most.
I am hunting to find on one is the s/m size. I like having a vest that rides up high.
Well... the cabelas kickstand vest arrived. If youve had the grand slam vest, and then buy this one, you will be disappointed. Real thin and cheap feeling, the kickstand mechanism didn't even really work. Kept closing on me. So I marched straight over to my local cabelas and I was able to get my grand slam vest back. The price difference truly shows.
So I ordered one the first week in January. On the website, they were $99.99. When I ordered the customer service person said they were on sale at $54.99. So after 2 weeks, I received notification that it was on backorder. Then a month later they "cancelled" the order. So I went to local NY Cabelas's and complained that they should have notified me sooner. Customer service found 3 at a Texas store and shipped them to my local store. The vest came in today and when I picked it up it was the true timber HTC, not the MO obsession. So they gave me the newer vest for $54.99. To be honest, IMO, HTC is very close to obsession. Most turkeys will be dead before they figure it out. I don't know anyone that has an older one to compare the quality, China made. But It seems good to me. I also had a $50 gift card so the vest cost me $7 and change. I believe you will start seeing them in all stores offered in two colors (Strata or HTC) shortly....
Can you take the kickstand out of that model? I'm not sure I want that feature, but I would like to have a spare in a more green color, which is only available in the kickstand.

Yea you can. I would just buy the regular vest without the kickstand because the kickstand is virtually unusable
I've had a Tactical Tat'r for years. Probably one of the first models that they made of that one. Love it except for one thing. No place to keep a water bladder. I am thinking of sewing some fabric in the back to hold a bladder. Has anyone done that and have pics of what it looks like?
I agree with what many have said--it is a great vest. I still see it offered on their website too. Best cushion on any vest I've ever seen.
There is a spot on the left side (hip) of the vest between the front and back that has an open mesh pocket with drawcord for water bottle and on the right side (hip) a cloth pocket zippered. On the new vest.
So what's the consensus on to go with it without the kickstand. I've got the Tat'r2 but may get a backup and might go with the kickstand as a backup
Look what I found today at my local Cabela's and yes those are Mossy Oak Obsession.
