I've killed 5 or so birds with tss now, 3 under 20, and a couple between 30 and 40. Got a few of those kills on film, and noticed that with the tss, the kills seem less dramatic. What I mean by that is, there's no "head slap" like I usually see with lead, or even hevi 13. Other kills with those two loads would "jerk" the head almost out of view or flip a bird over when the pellets hit. I've noticed with the tss the birds just crumple, even when hit at close range. Possibly because the pellets are so small, and so hard, they just crush the bones and zip right through, without much "energy deposit"? Just a casual observation, and there's probably nothing to it, and I'm definitely not complaining. I love my tss. Just wondering if you all had noticed the same thing.
Mine have been clean pass through . They just dropped. But like you said , shot is very dense so its breaking/ shattering the neck bones and cancel Christmas.

My first year hunting with them. I personally have been more impressed with HW 7's. The birds I have shot and seen shot sure have flopped a lot. The HW 7's made their heads balloon or swell up and I haven't seen that with the TSS 9's.

This right here. hw 7's always seemed more impressive, 9 tss is a lot lighter and smaller per pellet but you have pattern density for sure. The close range stuff was surprising for us too. All the birds are dead though.
Hw7's are dense and broke bones for us.
Maybe 8's would be one way to go if someone wanted to.
If someone had a good supply of hw7's I personally would not worry about Tss 9's. Probably be happy about saving the 2-3 bucks a shot and carry on.
Hw 7s are 15cc and TSS 9s are 18cc per shot

yes . A number 9 tss is a lot lighter than a Hw7 . Per individual pellet weight.
hw7's 15g/cc pellet count 219 per ounce. Tss 9's 18g/cc pellet count 362 per ounce.
Hw8's would be 301 pellets per ounce. And lead 7 1/2's are 350 pellet per ounce.
The Federals in my opinion were always too big. Those should have been 8's.

Agreed
Can't blame the pellet for pulling your shot and catching them with the edge of the pattern...
Apex SmallTown loads are the way to go.....

lol. Yep, every shot was pulled. Not saying anything bad about the TSS loads just haven't been overly impressed with them thus far

I'm going to order some
I've hunted turkeys for 26 years and the last gobbler I shot with TSS dropped in his tracks at 20-25 yards. First turkey I can honestly say never flopped once, twitched a little when I rolled him over to look at his beard but that was it. I shot a jake earlier in the season, my first with TSS, and the flopping he did ended very quickly. He was at about 10-15 yards. I've had a couple drop stone dead with hevi 13 7's but the flopping began once I picked them up. I can say TSS is some amazing stuff, I hope Federal doesn't mess with the formula they have in 3" 9's. I have some Apex 2 3/4" 8's for another gun thats chambered for 2 3/4" only but I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet with it, I hope to see the same results.
I find the flopping very similar to everything else I've killed them with lead, HTL, TSS. Damage to the brain is damage to the brain, it really doesn't matter what causes it. Yes, I've had a few flop very little, but the only true no flops have been bow kills that bled out.
I went back to lead 4's. 20bucks for a box of 10 and all my birds die to.
Copper Plated Lead = Dead
HTL = Deader
TTS = Deadest

Factual information!

HW7's Deaderest :thanks: :lol:
We can try TSS 7s to HW 7s but it would probably be a bit much for turkey. My son definitely likes the HW 7s in his Mossberg.

The only prob w that is some states you can't use 8s in so from a marketing perspective they may have been best offering a couple sizes. All a mute point now though I guess.

Weatherby 26" .575 Carlsons
Remington 21" trulock , probably gonna change to TSS choke from them for it as soon as I can see how much of Hw7 I have left.
Savduck has some money setups in his guns posted recently on here.
