Title: Remington 870 20 gauge
Post by: Timber Hunter on February 13, 2019, 10:38:49 PM
I have a Remington 870 20 gauge with a 26" barrel, I'm wanting to set up. I will be shooting TSS #9's. What's a good choke to start out with?

Depends on what you're looking for, but in general TSS doesn't need as tight of a constriction as lead and Hevi shot. In fact, something in the .575-585 range will likely get you a good hunting pattern, with a more even balance between the 10" and 20" circle. It's usually not too picky, and oftentimes a cheap choke will shoot surprisingly well. I shoot a Rem factory SF in mine and wouldn't want it any tighter, but that's just my preference. It holds a killing pattern way further than..........., nevermind I won't get into that

Thanks for your advice. New to the tss and 20 guage. My 870 12 guage has worked fine for many years. Heard so much about tss and 20 guage just going to try it out.

Primos tightwad .570 or Remington super full .572  i 've shot the 18.5", 21",and the 26" barrels on my 870 and that .570 range just seems to throw a very forgiving pattern while still keeping around 280-300 in the 10. The two longer barrels were really not that picky about chokes and tss doesn't need an $80 choke to pattern well. High numbers .555-.562. Forgiving .570-.585

From my research on here if you are obsessed with 10" number go with Indian creek .555. If you want s good hunting pattern and a little room for error I'd go with tightwad .570 or Carlson .575.
