I built this Aussie Blackwood trumpet today, lovely figure in this billet. It is a cousin to the Koa tree, but this billet I have is about as dense as this species gets and sounds more rosewood-like than Koa to my ears. Beautiful piece of wood and she is a runner too. I bought this lumber directly from a logger in Australia many years ago to be used in guitars, but now it will provide enough blanks to build 48 trumpets :happy0064:

Thanks to all..... I did make a quick recording of the Aussie Blackwood to see if the recorded sound matched what I was hearing, yep, I liked it. I had my dog with me so he was part of the sound file as was a text that came through while recording....comedy of errors, lol......but I will try to post it anyway at a later date.
I have to admit, that is not what I expected to see when I saw blackwood in the title. Very attractive piece.
I received this trumpet from Greg a couple of days ago. I have been running it quite a bit since then. Not only is it a great looking horn, the sound and craftsmanship are excellent. Thanks Greg.
That's sharp!
