Marlin is by far my favorite box call maker and I love seeing his boxes. Let's see everyone's Watkins boxes! Marlin just sent mine out today! Bloodwood over butternut. Unreal!!!! He sent me a recording of him playing it - it's truly an amazing thing he does with those calls! I'll post a pic when it arrives!! He said it was one he personally loved but he was happy I was so excited to get a call from him he sent that call! WHOO hoo!

Nice bunch of Marlins .. i have 3 of his cost style , 2-30 checkered and one 27 - checkered boxes and his fiddle boxes ... Cost style yellow poplar and black walnut, red ceder and black walnut and black walnut and black walnut with ceder inlays... all of these have his funny messages on the boxes..... priceless in my collection of his boxes ....

Those weren't misfits, he only had one actual misfit with him. A misfit is a handled shortbox, you are probably thinking of his shorter version of his longbox, his turkey trot/dodat box. Trust me, he only had one misfit with him.

I think a big key to keep in mind when it comes to Marlins calls is you can have two of the same exact combo and they may have have a different sound to them, both equally great but different, and to me that's a good thing as they will both sound turkey, be able to run all out to super soft, and hold them and run them all kinds of ways and get a ton of different birds out of them

Both of them sound different when comparing them to one another. Both have a nice mature hen sound except the wormy has more rasp. Not a lot of rasp but enough.

I've pondered the thought of a Snakewood over Holy and pondered to long. I heard a sound file recently and after hearing it immediately spoke to Marlin to see about this combo. He's out of Holly! What a great sounding box and I missed out!

Center was my first, Fiddle Paddle I got at the 2019 NE Call Makers Summit @ Turkey Trot Acres. Woods Alaska Yellow Cedar over Service Berry.
Left Fiddle Box Butternut/Persimmon this one was a very hard choice, I listened to the files he sent me several time and kept coming back to this one, a Butternut/Mora and a all Walnut, they all did something well but to my ear this one did everything well even though it was the worst recording of the 3 because it was so windy. I truly wish I could have got another, I think I would have also gotten the Butternut Mora, though I really liked that all Walnut as well.

The bottom Middle is a Coaxer I received from a member here, I do not recall what the woods are but it plays very easily.

I think this is most of my Marlin flock, other than ones that might still be in turkey satchels or vest.
