Title: dawkins
Post by: shatcher on July 26, 2018, 10:53:41 PM
I have about 30 pot calls from many of the reputable makers.  The best sounding call I own is a Dawkins stoned aluminum in acrylic pot.  I play my calls all the time and keep going back to that one.  What say you?

IMO Darrin is the best box callmaker and in the top 3 for pots.  I own a walnut slate and stoned aluminum that are both good enough to win the DD Adams...best part is he invented the stoned aluminum surface...gangster

Has far has aluminum goes,,I got to give it a tie between a Dawkins stoned in plastic  and a Schaffer aluminum over aluminum in sapelle.

Darren's plastic stoned aluminum is one of the best sounding pots I have. Also is the easiest to run!

I was thinking about his crystal and slate in plastic. Anyone have any thoughts on those?

....also I guess I wasn't aware that he invented stoned aluminum (?). Any more information on that and when he did?

A guy at my hunting lease invented stoned turkey hunting.  It hasn't paid off yet for him because he spends ten minutes in the woods and swears it was three hours.

Darrin ranks right at the top in my book as a callmaker and person.

Darrin is a huge contributor to making turkey calls what they are today, particularly with aluminum. Not sure on specifics, but I'd imagine he could give you them if you call him up for a chat.

As for the stoned turkey hunting, that's absolutely hilarious.  :funnyturkey:

It's my understanding that he also invented anodized aluminum

There's no telling how many turkeys have been killed by a Dawkins call. I have a buddy that's a hardcore public land hunter and he only hunts with his anodized aluminum call.

He's one of the elites for sure.

I don't know Dawkins personally ,  but I purchased one of his plastic pot calls with an aluminum surface on OG and man it sounds awesome.   I will definitely try some more of his pot calls!
