Title: Raspiest Diaphraghm Call
Post by: Florida Marine on April 23, 2011, 11:23:35 AM
I hunt with a gent here in VA that only uses a diaphragm call...  When I asked him what it was, he stated it was "classified information".

I manged to trade him a call (I make pot calls) for the secret.

So, I am turning a call for his grand daughter, but want to circle around and see if I can find out before hand.

What is the raspiest mouth call?  He's a master with it, so even if I find out what the damn thing is it will take years to get to his level of skill.

I believe any stacked frame is going to be very raspy. I Shot a bunch of gobblers with a True Double in my mouth.  As stated earlier, they are a mouth full.

Rasp... Depends on how he is calling. I can pull a ton of rasp out of a bat cut if i call incorrectly... but i would think if its really raspy hes using a V-Cut.

I bought a custom diaphram call at a mom and pop sporting goods store in Richwood, WV called Four Seasons Outfitters. The call was custom made from someone in PA.  Im not sure of the name, but the calls were only 5$ and I bought 2.  One of the calls was a triple reed call with orange tape and clear latex/prophylactic.  I believe it was called boss hen. The other call had a stronger and thicker frame with yellow tape and clear/grey latex/prophylactic.  It had 4 reeds, and it was and still is the most raspiest call Ive ever heard.  It was called OLD MAMA HEN, and it took a serious set of lungs to work that call.  Unfortuantely I left this call in my truck and the reeds stuck together and it was trashed.  HS strut old boss hen didnt have nothing on this call.

Also, Quaker Boy makes an Old boss hen that is way better than HS Strut calls.

I don't remember what call it was, but about 10 years ago I bought an HS Strut at their booth at Nationals.  I do remember it was a V cut, but Alex Rutledge whipped out a pair of scissors and did some cutting on it and it was really raspy then.  He bragged it up and it did sound good, but I didn't have the heart to tell him that I liked it better with less rasp.

What do you do,  the guys probably brought more turkeys to a gun than I have seen in my life.  ???

Go to Mountain Screamer game calls, they have  a website, and look at their 3.5 drop cutter. Raspiest call i have ever used, and very easy to run considering all the reeds. I think it's the first call on their diaphram page and it will be orange in color. I usually buy two a year, and that's the only diaphram i use!

lol...  I am sworn to secrecy and gave my word I would not divulge, can't go back on my word.

Nobody here listed it so far and its kind of an odd ball and yes, it does depend on the user he is one a much better caller, but two way more raspy!
