Title: Last day public limb hanger in Tennessee
Post by: catman529 on May 13, 2018, 02:28:11 PM
Took my buddy Adrian to an area I knew there were some birds last time I hunted there. We put the boat in around 4:45 and got to the woods just in time to hear the first roost gobbles.

Of course all the birds were across a big hollow from the ridge we sat on. There were at least 3 or 4 different birds gobbling.

A couple of em drifted off and went quiet, but one bird never stopped gobbling until he met his match at around 7:30 am.

We crossed the big hollow and climbed up to the end of a finger and set up and called. Two birds answered, they were close. The dominant bird came in on a string and put on a show for a while, but no clear shot. The subordinate finally couldn't take it and he snuck in close, but Adrian couldn't see him, and the bird got nervous and left. Well that made the big bird nervous too, and he started to leave, but caught some lead before he could get anywhere.

Awesome!  Last year, I got my Indiana bird on the last morning - after a very exhausting season chasing em down!!  So rewarding to have that last setup and move after a coyote busted my set, see the toms walking toward me, and hitting the dirt without them seeing me. Tick tock BOOM. CONGRATS on a great bird!!!
