there has been a bunch of threads about favorite woods and combo lets here about your least FAVORITE. I woud have to say mine is a bloodwood lid, man it just seems like everyone of them SCREAMS and its hard to tone down. so lets hear it what woods just do not make the cut for you?
Personally, I've never liked a Poplar box.
Never been much of a poplar guy either.
Not a purpleheart guy myself ... with boxes or lids ,, strikers just anything ...
Not a big fan of cedar In a box and Birdseye maple in a pot.
Kwila and jatoba are boring to me,,they look like pants that have been through the washer 100 times.
cedar in a box and purple heart in anything
I'm old school........
Talking box calls, here. I prefer wood that was made in the USA, with one exception. I do like Honduran mahogany. But I really like the traditional and some non- traditional American woods........... Not a real fan of the exotics, for the most part.
For box calls, cherry.
Persimmon. Bought a persimmon striker from a well regarded maker and I absolutely hated the sound it made. Every call I tried it on sounded horrible. Will not buy anything made from persimmon because of it.
My least favorite "woods" are these pines with thick undergrowth you can't walk in..... Down South Mississippi, really hard for a Virginia man to hunt in........
LOL.............
* CYPRESS *
Purple Heart
My least favorite woods are the ones that there are no turkey in.
