The second time my oldest daughter (10) got to carry a gun turkey hunting today and she did great. We hunted public land on youth day. She got really close to pulling the trigger on a jake, but never got the shot. He made to 15 yrds but always had to much brush in the way.
Today we sat in the morning until about 8:15 after not hearing anything other than 4-5 birds on the roost 600-800 yrds on another property. We ate some oatmeal at home and were on another property and setup by 9:45.
About 10:45 two long beards came busting into the food plot straight to the avian half strut jake. They milled around, beat and knocked over the decoy. The dominant bird stood on top of it. The other bird finally separated enough for her to get a shot. She dropped it like a sack of potatoes. Old Fed HW #6 rocked him at 24 steps. From the time they ran into the food plot and her pulling the trigger was 12-14 min. And it was the first turkey to die coming to a pot call I made.
Congrats! Sounds like a great time together. Awesome to see these daughters hunting.
