Can I use an alcohol pad to lift up any oil spots on a slate surface that a simple swipe of a scotch pad won't remove or wipe out?
Never heard of doing that but I wouldn't think it would hurt it. I'd suggest trying a small area away from where you play it first to test it.

I don't think it would hurt anything either
I use it on green slate. Makes it nice and clean.

Won't hurt a thing....just don't soak the rim where it can get to the glue.
Do it all the time. It also helps to pull moisture out of the slate. Here in Alabama where the humidity in the air is very high every little bit helps. Always take a lighter with you too.
My green slate has spots on it like a piece of food or something greasy touched it. Just a thought maybe it would pull it out and basically take the slate back down to say square one

I have 3 green slates....and one looks like that as well, a little spotty.
It is most likely the "grain" of the slate...red slate will have veins in it as well.
But the alcohol won't hurt it a bit, may even clear it up some
I clean slate with flame like Scott Hock said, never used alcohol.
