Title: Shell Recommendation for Mossberg .670 Choke
Post by: 243kid on March 17, 2018, 06:18:09 AM
Bought a Mossberg 500 Turkey Thug. I always start patterning with the factory Choke before buying additional chokes.

Looking for a shell recommendation (shot size and brand)?

Also any aftermarket Choke and Ammo combination that members have first hand experience with?

Thanks

I shoot the 835 (which has the over bored barrel) and the .670 Pure Gold.  That gun loves the Hevi-13 7's with the .670.  I would start there, you won't be disappointed.  By the way, I think the factory extra full turkey choke that comes with the Mossy's are .690.

The 690 is only in the 835/935. The 500's have more constriction.

6, 7, hevi 13's. Will get you a decent pattern with very little effort.

The 500 usually shoots very well with .660- .665 chokes. Try 3" longbeards #5 and #6 shot in 1 3/4 and 1 7/8 oz. Mine likes all those but settled on the #5 1 7/8oz. 5's may shoot better with the .670 choke.

With factory 670 grab some longbeard 4 or 5 and have at it :OGturkeyhead:

I'll also give a recommendation for the Winchester Long beard #5 or 6's, they pattern great in all my shotguns. Not just the turkey guns, but the field guns as well!
