Post by: JLH on February 24, 2018, 07:32:27 PM
Red slate in Gaboon...green slate in Cocobolo

Oh my.....this has changed the way i look at slate....such a crisp natural sound to them.

Enjoy....

There is a difference....its subtle, but clearly the red is a little higher pitched.

Now this isnt necessarily apples to apples....because they are in 2 different woods.
Even though cocobolo and gaboon are similar in hardness and density, they are in different pots, so slight tone changes are possible.

The end result....i dont think ill hunt with a grey slate much....these two are so versatile.
and striker changes really change the way they sound.

To answer some pm's....

These are John Sinclair calls.....he has them available and ready to go (for now)

On his website, johnsinclaircustomcalls.com  you can build your own pot, choose the wood, surface and soundboard.....and it will be on your doorstep in 4-5 days. period.

Red and green slate are only available in 3.5" pots.

Enjoy.

Here's a video of John running the red slate. Wanted to hear what it sounded like myself so went searching. Sounds very, very good.
