OK I need to vent a little. I was sitting at home last night when I got a text message from one of my good friends, a picture text none the less. Normally these texts will make me laugh - not this one. It was a picture of his snowmobile and the dead turkey he just ran over and killed (on purpose). The text read "I got me a turkey Shaw!" To say I was pi$$ed would be an understatement!! It almost made me sick to my stomach.
The part that really sucks is that's where I turkey hunt and he is the one who owns and farms all that land around there. It's just sad that some people don't have any respect for things.

Alot of folks around here chase deer around.. If their is enough snow to ride, their is sure enough snow to stress the deer herd without being chased.

He's a good guy in general but just has absolutely no regard for animals. He doesn't have that deep respect we have for our game animals...to him they are just birds who are always in the way when he is cutting hay or crops.

Yes I'm sure - he's talked about them chasing stuff on their sleds before.
The fact that he owns all this land (sounds as if its hundreds or thousands of acres anyway) kinda gives some insight, sounds like he's a wealthy sort and most of them I know are spoiled rotten and dont care for much other than themselves and what they want.
Just a thought but maybe I'm wrong, dont meen to sound entirely judgemental.

This is about spot on with their family! When I asked him if I could hunt it, he didn't hesitate to say yes and told me to kill them all. Right deer is a whole different story...I don't have permission to deer hunt the same woods bc someone already hunts it and all the other woods they own.

I would tread carefully.. he is letting you hunt "his" land ..
I have a landowner that shoots them with rifles if he catches them out in the fields and brags about it to me.. but I still manage to kill a bird or two off the place each year the correct way.. I don't say a word and congatulate him instead..

really? there's no need to encourage such behaviour. if he does it, thats on him. but to congratulate him on an illegal(at least in my area) method of killing turkeys is a bit much.

It is not Illegal in my state.. I wish it were .. yes I congratulate him.. private land is hard to come by around these parts .. so yes I do congratualte him.. even if I don't agree with it... and really don't mean it ..

I sure as hell am not going to congratulate him lol but I didn't let him know how I really felt either. I simply replied back that I didn't find it amusing. Like I said he's a good friend of mine and this is the only place I have to turkey hunt. Inside I was fuming but I'm not going to let it ruin a friendship and lose my hunting woods over it.

That bird does look alive but I think it's a hen.
Back whem I was milking cows, I use to chase coyotes and skunks on the 4 wheeler, but to chase a turkey or deer trying to run over them is just wrong. Shaw I agree with protecting your hunting rights but maybe you can some how let him know that, that was a bad thing in your eyes.

I understand the disappointment in your friends choice, but..........if I considered him a friend I wouldn't throw him under the bus on a public forum. I'd either decide he wasnt a friend and cut ties, including the hunting, or Id find a little better way to let him know I wasnt impressed with running a bird over.
A lot of folks make poor choices.........posting it up on a public forum for mob hanging by a bunch of guys with few details while hiding behind a monitor is a poor choice.........mad or not.

My post had nothing to do with telling him to stop crying about it.
My opinion is deal directly with the buddy and suck up the consequences if it means no more hunting or leave it be, but dont put the guy on trial on a public forum in front of a bunch of guys, myself include, that cant begin to have all the details. My first reaction would be like most.........drive the sled over him, but this isnt exactly the arena that I would want to use for passing judgement. And.....when it comes to personal matters, call me crazy, but other than asking for prayers to the Almighty, I'm not inclined to seek advice from a bunch of lunatic turkey hunters that I dont know beyond this screen. ;D

My intent of this post wasn't to get everyone in an uproar while hiding behind a monitor - come on now let's be serious. I posted this because it really upset me and I came to a place where I knew people would understand where I was coming from.
So since I'm apparently "crying" about it according to Gobble!, who obviously didn't read the post b/c I did let him know that I didn't find it funny, this matter can be put to bed. Thanks for listening to me vent :-\

I think we all can agree that it was completely wrong for this guy to run the turkey over, especially in the eyes of a bunch of outdoors-man and turkey hunters. I believe its time to move on to bigger and better things to talk about that involve the wild turkey. Ahhhh finally a stretch of warm weather heading our way...... :gobble:
You got that right, we are finally sayin goodbye to our snow! Supposed to be in the middle sixties all week here and I'm way past ready for it! Gonna head out in the morning and see if I don't hear any firing off. :gobble: :gobble:
Hopefully it will melt this 3" of ice we have here too. Because no snow = no snowmobiles = more turkeys for me this spring lol
