Title: Need a new slate
Post by: RiverRoost on February 07, 2018, 09:16:28 PM
With all the talk over the halloran new slate and his zebra wood slate it just confirms last years decision I wasn't sold on my wenge and walnut slate. So with that being said there is a wenge for sale which will be in the classifieds.  Any suggestions on top slate to go with.

Yep, Scott Hocks quarter sawn oak slate over slate. I have said it a thousand times...best slate call IMO and he is a great guy. His slate over glass is killer too. Right now on eBay there is one for sale for 60 bucks. Great buy.

I have posted this before but I have 4 that I would not want to be with out Chris Brumfiel walnut slate , over glass .Mike Yingling slate over slate in sappy walnut,Misfire calls red gum slate over aluminum, and a Scott Hock black limba slate over slate. I would be happy with any of them if I could only have one. I don't have a Brad Roberts but his green slate sounds great also. All of the ones I have are gray slate

I've heard Eddie Wynne has a killer. I have a Lon trice yellow heart that sings. I also have a new Lon trice green slate on the way that is new this year. He said its already won an award and its going to Nashville. Not to many are going to be made I don't believe.

I picked up a Misfire flamed box elder slate over alum and I really like it.  Great one piece strikers too.....I highly recommend.  In addition I run a Schaffer maple slate and an old American Friction walnut slate.  Thats the 3 best slates I have.

I also have the red gum slate over aluminum from misfire. About a month ago my 8 year old wanted a call to learn on so I gave it to him to mess around with and while listening to him play it I was quickly reminded of how good of a call it is. Very under rated callmaker and a heck of a nice guy!

Al and Josh at SS are building pots again and they make a great slate call. I just got a new one in Yellowheart and its excellent.
