Great post as I am a Public Lands Turkey Hunter. Last year was a tough one-- but I got my 2 New York Gobblers--. Hiker spooked a bird on me in New Jersey. All good though. Wish I knew how to post pics. 29th Spring coming up this late April in NJ. Only 3 times for me on Private Lands so far. Up to 115 wild turkeys-- all kinds in PA,NJ, and NY-Spring and Fall. My goal is to one day take my very first Private Land Gobbler.

These are great pictures! I'm afraid our public land is under greater threat than ever and hope everyone will stay informed and be active in protecting our public lands.

Guess I'm lucky cause I never get these posts. I live in NJ, not a destination state by any means. I have a decent amount of private land to hunt. It's not exclusive though, least most of it isn't. I believe it's actually easier to hunt public property. It's where I key in on more and more. I'd bet I'm 50/50 with public/private land harvests. So many less guys on the public land (like almost no one) though not the ease of walking of most farms. That may be the draw

Agreed.  The private land I hunt is worse than nearby public.  I usually opt for public.  It's all about where the birds are, and how much disruption there is from other hunters.  I'm fortunate enough that with my public land, I'm not compelled to kill button bucks, hens and jakes.

Public land is horrible. No one is going to be successful unless they find an exclusive tract of private land. Y'all are crazy.

Deer hunt 1988-- Awesome pics! Bowguy-- there is more pressure in Passaic County. Happy-- go back and read my 1st post! I have never taken a private land turkey! Just very heavily hunted leased gun club lands and Public Lands. Those leased lands- are hit harder then Public because the people who live next to them simply go out their back door and quickly try to take a gobbler fast before a member shows up.  If someone is into hiking year round-- public land is a Awesome place.

I wrote a book some years ago on my views of Public Lands. Only book that I broke even on. They are all sold out now. Plenty of Public Land Turkey Hunters out for sure.
