Beautiful day today, so I recorded a one-take out in the woods with 4 different trumpets, always an interesting exercise to see what the heck I sound like on these things....lol....don't see many trumpet sound files on here so figured I would give it a shot. I am approximately 30 feet away from the phone recorder and facing away from it while playing. I am also trying to play these pretty softly so the volume is low. Trumpets have been the hardest calls for me to figure out, but I still enjoy messing with them.
Two of these trumpets are non-wood, one is Brazilian Rosewood, and one is African Blackwood. If you want to let me know what you think about these I am all ears.
Trumpet #1- ends at 1:54
Trumpet #2- ends at 3:00
Trumpet #3 -ends at 3:53
Trumpet #4 -to end of recording

I think they all sounded awesome. It sounds like the real deal. If you were hunting where I was deer hunting today you would have called in a bunch of birds lots of gobbling today . I am new to suction calls but the more I hear them the more I like them.
You play a trumpet very well. I really could not tell a difference in the individual trumpets. You played them all well. You do a very good cluck and your soft yelps are deadly. I love to hear a trumpet.
Your little cuts and cackles and soft yelps sound amazing it all sounded pure turkey
Sounded great man. Sure would have loved to hear some kee-kees.

Thanks to all......I thought about it, but each trumpet plays differently so it is very hard for me to get a seamless kee-kee going from one call to the other like I did on this recording. I will get comfortable on one of them and record some kee-kees another time. The kee-kees are the most difficult for me.
Sounds real good! :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:
For those who have interest in knowing the trumpets being played, here are the details and my thoughts on each. Numbered as they are played in the recording.
#1 -- Permar Delrin .45--Great call, super easy to run, wide range of tones, and sounds great.
#2 -- KP African Blackwood--Another awesome trumpet, best clucks of them all to my ear and great for one-handed playing.
#3 -- Pappy(Jack Lewis) Delrin? -- This one keeps surprising me, has great robust clucks/cuts, easy to run. It is a little deeper tone.
#4 -- Irving Whitt Brazilian Rosewood -- Love this one too, easy to play, versatile, has a very natural sound to it.
I have a Permar 45 and it is a great call and versatile as you stated.
I appreciate the sound file, trumpets don't get the attention they deserve. JM2C's

I was guilty myself, never messed with a trumpet until last year, and I have been chasing these crazy birds for 40+ years. I like the fact that very few guys use them, might just help on the public lands I hunt......Oh yeah, look forward to trying one of your trumpets ;D
I have no doubt that you will make it sound good.
sounds good
They sure get a lot of attention in the woods.

I had responses from gobblers nearly every day I used mine last year and I wasn't very good either.....really looking forward to using them this year.

I really like your wing bone and cane call, unfortunately I can't use/record them because my sons took them....lol
Here is a picture of all 4 trumpets used in this recording, not sure how much it matters, but you can see the length differences which might affect the pitch/tone of the calls.

Thanks Terry, still figuring these things out.....but yeah, the Permar is excellent.
A trumpet is the only call one of my friends has been using for 20 years. He bought one and never bought another. Think of all the $ he's saved while I'm buying new calls almost every year.

I get a lot of enjoyment trading/buying/building different calls.....I could definitely use what I have and never look back, but what fun is that ;D ;D

I only used a few calls for 30 years and more hunting pressure made me decide I wanted a custom call so I wasn't using what 5 other people in my area were. I have fallen in love with call buying that's for sure and I now have way more than I need but I sure have enjoyed it and I play my calls year around now instead of the day of the hunt

I think you sound pretty darn good on all of them....especially with only a year under your belt. Sorry it took so long for me to get to this. My work computer and laptop have both been acting crazy for quite some time.
