Title: Hen questoin???
Post by: Trevor2 on April 14, 2011, 08:11:24 PM
Normally every year I have no problem calling in hens, not that im trying it just happens, but this year all the hens wanna do is raise thier head and wonder off when I call. Y is this? Now today I sit up and not five mins later had a hen picking throug the field before I even called, decided to do some light yelping, mainly bc I was becoming concerned with my calling lol, and she responded my way, never got vocal but still the same she came in, but my main question here is half way to m she laid down and just sat there, she didnt fidgit around, was she dusting in the open field or something else.

Well, having live decoys is a pretty good problem to have. At least they aren't running off the field. If you want to keep them around, maybe cooling the calling if your decoys aren't spooking the hens.  :anim_25:

5 things come to mind.

1) She was dusting (You'd notice by fluffing feathers and wing action)
2) She was in the breeding position
3) She was resting
4) She was incubating
5) She felt threatened by something and went low profile
