How many members here rely on their natural voice calling using your own voice box in your throat. For me- it started out when I was 14 and hunting pheasants in the Fall with my Father. It just came natural to give out a rooster pheasant cackle and today I use it as a Spring locator-- but not much because some hunters far off might think-- that was a gobble...
I tried the mouth horseshoe callers early on- but was never comfortable with them and was never able to call up a gobbler using one. That changed with my natural voice however. I have used my natural voice box to call up a bunch of turkeys Spring and Fall. That is a big reason, I bought Jack Dudleys book as he won contests with his natural voice. That said, I still think that pot callers are my top pick followed by my natural voice with boxes 3rd and wingbones 4th.
I favor yelps of course first with my natural voice and can now be heard a good 1/4 mile off. Whit-whits also, I use alot as Spring and Fall turkey hunters in my area at least don't seem to use that call. And gobbling as well. I would like to enter a gobbling contest perhaps even if I place last-LOL!

Post up a soundfile.... :newmascot:
Well 1iagobblergetter, right now I don't own a computer and just recently got my 1st smartphone- so won't be able to post a soundfile.
I appreciate one who can make a realistic call with their natural voice. I pity one who has perfected the same before his voice has changed
I used to be able to natural voice gobble with the best of them. Things change and I can't do it anywhere near what I used to be able to.
2 Springs ago in my haste to get out of the house and into the turkey woods-- I forgot all my callers. So my natural voice helped that morning. Well Silvestris-- I am going to be 58 in a few months and my voice might change in the next 20 like everyones. I just really hope, I have another 20 years...
I hope you do too.
I called a gobbler in with my natural voice this spring. If a gobbler is taking his time and not gobbling his head off I will go natural voice sometimes. If he's really fired up I will usually go with a diaphragm because if he's fired up I'm usually shook up too bad for my voice not to crack lol

A few years back I was walking in the spring (April) woods with my wife and two kids. I said to them " this is a nice high spot to call turkeys from " I called using my throat, my wife thought I was nuts until I called in 3 adults. I hid the family behind some large trees and they got a show..... my kids thought I was a God.
I have used my voice many times over the years as it sounds better than me with a diaphragm! I owl if needed and can make soft yelps and soft hen clucks.....if you can hear me at 100 yards I'd be shocked. Add some leaf scratching and it can get the job done. For many years I stopped carrying a mouth call, so if you have a vest full of pots, you gotta go with natural voice or nothing when you can't move.
I natural voice owl and crow for locating. I can also gobble and I have natural voice yelped, clicked, and purred to gobblers.
Great replys here!
