Post by: gobbler74 on April 13, 2011, 10:10:00 PM
Congrats once again to Field Staff member Jimmy Wilhelm for state kill #48! Utah is in the books and Arizona coming up..last I heard the Utah mountain gobbler was taken at 8000 FT elevation in snow...and we think a little wind and rain is rough..more info and pics of 47 and 48th states posted soon...waiting to get them all together to post up at once!

I hope he pulls the trigger and drops two with one shot for his final bird to make 49 states (if legal there). Plain Awesome. Rooting for him to get it done.

Wow!! That is awesome!! :you_rock:
I too have set myself that goal. I want to kill a bird in all of the lower 48 states before I die. So far I've succeeded in Florida, S. Carolina, W. Virginia, Ohio, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Nebraska. Only 41 to go.
I am accepting invites from guys in any of the other states!! ;D
I'm not interested in Hawaii birds, or Oscellateds. So if I get my lower 48 birds, I'll move on to Goulds in Mexico or Easterns in Canada.

Is he hunting the Indian Reservation for his AZ tag? I've hunted San Carlos several times and have killed every time I've hunted it.

That's incredible! Has anyone ever done that feat before (I guess probably?). I've heard of a Grand Slam but that is an order of magnitude bigger!

I think there are several people that have done it, i heard that Rob Keck did it, i know that Randy Stafford of south Louisiana has done it, not sure how many more, they have a name for it, not sure, but some kind of slam, the LA NWTF State Board presented Randy a shirt or jacket this year representing the accomplishment, also, he said that a couple more had done it, I also think that Earl Mickels done it in 48 or 49 with a turkey call made by someone in that state, still a heck of a feat, i'm at 6 right now, maybe when I'm 150 years old, i'll be at 25 or 26 states

There are a few that have accomplished all 49...Jimmy talked to eddie salter last year and I believe he was up to around 30-35..celebrities have many more doors to open for the opportunities but its still a long road and a well earned accomplishment. Hats off to anyone who has completed that goal..with the price of fuel and travel expenses nowadays you have to really want it.
