Title: Halloran Wenge and Walnut Slate
Post by: thunderbirder on April 22, 2017, 08:54:24 AM
Not too much talk on that one.
I got one along with an Ipe 1 piece striker and I think it sounds really good. Just curious to know others' thoughts on it.

It was the hot item last year. I owned one and although thought it sounded great, it gave me too much of a glass sound. I was looking for a more toned down traditional slate sound. That's just my opinion.

X2...It did sound good but I got rid of it for the same reason...it is hard to find a great slate!

I really like mine. It is crisper than most slates, but imo most hen yelps I hear in the field (easterns) have much cleaner louder crisper yelps than the infamous "rasp" everyone likes. To each their own it's just i prefer to mimic what I hear in nature more than what my ears personally like. So that actually makes me enjoy this slate more. And it still purrs super easy like a good slate should.

Was thinking about adding one of these to my collection, but I'm torn between it and his slate over glass also considering his ceramic.

Thanks, I will probably end up buying all three after turk season closes. Just out of curiosity which of the 3 would you not go into the woods without.

That's a tuff one because I'm always switching around calls to hunt.
I really like the WW slate and carry it on most hunts because it's a slate. Has a good raspy sound. I try to carry 4 of different surfaces. The Ceramic is hard to leave behind. Killed one with it Friday.

Also have all three. All good but you want that Ceramic. Very good sounding call and real forgiving.
