Title: Lathe help

Hi guys I'm new to wood turning I've been wanting to start making my own pot calls and I need help getting started. I have a shopfox wood lathe on the way and need help I really don't know what bit or Chuck I need any help would be greatful

I use a 3 in face plate with a screw chuck. Penn state has them for less than 20.00 I pretty sure .. Some guys use a 3 or 4 jaw chuck.. Some use just the face plate with a waste block.. Its just what method best fits you.. I would recommend getting on THO call forums and read as much as you can.. That's where I started about a year ago Ask questions and they will point you in the right direction. Of getting some turkey out of your calls .. They have helped me a lot.. Good luck on your new adventure of call making ..

I have a Barracuda II. 
you can get it on Amazon or PSI.  I bought extra chuck bodies so I wasn't wasting time changing jaws all the time.

I hold from the center of the pot, forcing out, to do the outside.  then switch chucks and hold
from the outside, forcing in.  Little secret for ya.  Find an old motorcycle inner tube.  cross cut it to your desired width, making a rubber band, and use it on the outside of your pot when holding on the outside.  Prevents marks from your jaws.  Works great.
