I haven't been able to do any pre season scouting this year. So after a fun but unsuccessful youth hunt with my son at knf. On my way back home I stopped at a river bottom wma to try and locate a gobbler just for fun, and kill some time. Have you heard the saying ( get the owls started and they will get the turkeys started) ? Moving along at 330 pm, using a levee for elevation I was sending out gobbles patiently and every once in a while an owl would answer. Some far some close, one owl even got what I would call fired up, scratching my head on this one
Not hearing a bird in the evening isn't a horrible thing. I've tried roosting before and heard nothing. Go back the next morning with zero expectations and hear 6 sound off.
Sounds like a scouting mission is needed

Same here. If I had to depend on roosting birds, I wouldn't kill many. Birds could be henned up.
That wouldn't discourage me at all as long as I knew the area held turkeys. If you don't know the piece of land, roosting a bird without gobbles can be tough.
