Title: Mossberg 510 mini 410
Post by: PEHunter on March 15, 2017, 09:38:00 PM
Has anyone experimented with this gun and factor shells through the fixed modified choke?  I'm thinking about picking one up for my son to start out with, and would like for him to be able him out of a blind with it next year.

I bought one years ago for my son.  It was the only shotgun I could find that fit him.  He was very small at the time.  Never hunted turkeys with it but he bagged a good number of ringneck pheasants on the wing with it.   I discovered a new found respect for the little .410 bore.  We used factory Winchester Super X 3" Magnums with 3/4 oz. of # 6 shot.  He kept all his shots inside 30 yards and it worked great.   He has outgrown it and now has a Rem 870 20 ga. but is keeping the little Mossberg for his future son or daughter.  If your son is small I can see where this may be a good choice for his first shotgun.  Good luck.  WTT

i purchased a 510 Mini for my daughter when she was 9. She's 11 now and has killed two birds with it. I'd go with the 20ga version however.

She shoots Federal heavyweight #7's. I also topped hers with a Burris FFIII.

How old is your son..they have Federal HW Low recoil 2 3/4 , 20 gauge shells...age i guess has a lot to do with it and maturity ...  I look at one today it's neat for a 410.. i have some single shoot 410 and i have one double barrel Stevens 410....
