Title: 12 gauge 2.75" Federal HW 7's?
Post by: Tom Foolery on February 20, 2017, 09:18:44 PM
I was just given my great grandfather's Stevens Dreadnaught 12 gauge with a 12' long barrel  It's bank vault tight and it's been many moons since it has been in the woods.  I may try to kill a bird with it this year and I was looking at the HW 7 load in 2.75".  I assume it's a 2.75" chamber and the muzzle measures .687".

Anybody shoot the 2.75" load?

I have, in a Stevens 94B with a 26"ish barrel that measures .690 at the muzzle. It puts 115-120 in the 10 out to 35 or so IIRC. Nice even pattern but the shot density keeps the pellet count low from the git-go. Just not a big payload to begin with but it does good, the fcw likes that long tube.

It does about 80 at 35 yds with the old winny 1-5/8 oz number 5's

Shot this pattern yesterday with the 12 ga 2 3/4" Fed HW 7s.  I'm happy with them!
