started a new job last year and wont have any vacation days for turkeys season this year. all I will have is weekends and evenings after work. so discouraging. anyone else in the same boat or just get the weekends? just be nice to know that I'm not alone in this catastrophe. I'm used to having vacation days for turkey season. how do u deal with it if you are in the same boat?
I'm in the same boat I won't get my vacation and sick days until may 18
sucks bad. at least we know we r not alone now lol
True. Only good thing is I don't have to clock in until 745 and get off around 415
I'm close to those times too

How bad do you want to go. Call in sick and take it unpaid..Wouldn't be lying you have a sickness :you_rock: .or depending on how they are tell them your going turkey hunting and take it unpaid...
I'm in the same boat, no vacation till middle of May and we can't hunt after 1:00 in Mo.
Me basically for all hunting seasons for 36 years. Sure I get a 3 day hunt in here and there, but most are weekend affairs. Job I've been at for the last 10 years is pretty much 6 days a week, so I do a bunch of Sunday hunts. Sure beats yard work though. ;D

Congrats on going to be a father. Hunting always comes second to family you have my utmost respect..when you do hunt just make it count by putting your time in if you can. I've also had some really good short hunts and years where business has had to come before pleasure. That's one good thing about O.G. you have the world of turkey hunting at your fingertips when you can't go...
Pretty much the only time I get to hunt is on the weekends. I have lots of vacation time, but my schedule is pretty packed.
I do a lot of my hunting on the weekends. Plus having two boys in baseball and a daughter on a travel volleyball teamtakes a good chunk of that as well. It can still be done. Enjoy the time with your children. You only get so much time with them. I grew up not having a father and am doing my best to make sure they get the best of me. I am not going to be one of those dads sitting back wondering where time went. Congrats on the child.

Same boat here. But the past few years end up getting my tags filled in the two days.
I hope it rains during the week and you get nice weather on weekends. Good luck & enjoy every hunt you get.

I'm a teacher so I pretty much hunt just weekends except for the 3 personal days I use during the spring season every year. I'd happily trade 3-4 weeks of summer vacation to be able to use during turkey season.

Thanks, I've got one 5 year old that keeps me busy. I will be hunting every chance I get. The good thing about my job is most of the time I'm ridding around the areas I hunt so I get to see a bunch of stuff. Especially deer and turkeys.

The teachers around here get lucky. They get either the last week of March or first week of April off for spring break.. Good luck to you this spring.

Been there man had to pass on a trip to Nebraska last year because of taking a job and not having any vacation time.

Saturdays only for me... Gotta' figure out what is going on every week...
But, I am happy to be able to go when I can.
'
Saturdays only for me. Never had a job that I had more than 5 days vacation time and 3 of those have always went for rifle deer. The others are usually reserved for farming. Depending on if the weather is fit to be in the fields, a lot of times it's only an hour or two of hunting on Saturday!
Several years back I changed careers from a welder to a welding inspector not only was the money a lot better but it allowed me to pick were and when I want to work. It has been great I usually hunt every day of turkey season minus 2-3 days due to bad weather etc.and hunt one or more states nearby.Well it finally caught up with me lol I took off Nov. and Dec. to bow hunt deer and had a job lined up for Jan-march. The job was pushed back and now I'll be stuck trying to scrounge a day here and there while working nights. When time is not a factor you can relax and take your time which helps a lot on public land.I will be sure that this doesn't happen again!!

My spring break is the first full week in April and our season starts on the 15th. At least it gives me some time to scout during the week when not as many people are in the woods. Good luck to you as well!
I take limited time come spring. Usually go into work later n go some early mornings. Nothing like when I did taxidermy full time. I have all morn weekends. To best use limited time be it 45 mins of first light-which stinks or the weekends, roost your birds n this way come first light you're in the game. That doesn't pan out you have the rest of morning to run n gun other gobblers you've found pre season.
I've killed lots of birds first 45 mins. My buddy was a teacher n that's what he got to hunt before work n he always roosted. Used to freeze empty coke bottles to set inside turkeys til he got home n they can be placed in a tub in a bag if that helps.
I may have slightly more time than you but unless you have all day every day it's never gonna be enough
Ive been out of work because of back surgery since Oct. 16th, I have a ton of vacation time but just dont feel it is right to go back to work in mid March then turn straight around and start taking vacation days. Luckily NC passed a Sunday hunting bill and I can hunt 2 days each weekend thru the season. It will be weird being at work each morning during the season.
Gods of Thunder
hopefully by next year I will be on a 4 on 4 off schedule. hopefully ill have vacation days and the way it works out I can have up to 12 days to hunt.

You should come to Fla, our spring breaks fall about the first or second week of turkey season for us, I try to get a day or two off the to take the youngans, and the weather is usually perfect for camping and fishing in the afternoons. 8)

:camohat: I was out of work for six weeks and had to use all my vaca time and sick time. I'll be in the same boat, scout harder, hunt harder. Good Luck to all in the same boat, don't let it get ya down. :funnyturkey:
