Title: Need help identifying this Rem 870
Post by: jeshoffstall on February 18, 2017, 07:04:53 PM
So, getting back into turkey hunting after a several year absence.   Been lurking on here for ideas and love the concept of a dedicated 20 gauge turkey shotgun.  Looked at several build threads and was putting plans in place.

Went to a local walmart and they had the youth model 870 express for around $330.  Started doing the math on stocks, dipping, threading, etc. and the clerk asked "what about this one"?

What he handed me was a fully camoflauged (realtree) 870 with a 21" bbl and a 13" length of pull (got a tape from home improvement.  The only thing I would need to do would be to have it drilled and tapped for an optic and add a sling (had studs).  Price was $369.

I have looked all over the interweb and can not find this configuration - is this a Walmart exlusive?  Seems like a much better value than starting with a youth express!!

Thanks for allowing me to join the forum.

sounds like a compact 20. Like this:

Maybe Walmart did a deal for the full camo?? Regardless, if you have to buy a new 20 to start your project... I'd definitely consider that one you described. If you are wanting to swap stocks for a pistol grip - then go cheap.

Oh, and pardon my manners... WELCOME!  :icon_thumright:

Bought the same gun myself. It's different than the one in the link it has a camo barrel and receiver as well like the full size 870. I tried to find it listed elsewhere too but never had any luck not even on Remington's website. Is this the one you looked at?

I'll have to look when I get home tomorrow but I'll post another pic of it for you. Btw if you do end up buying a new one there's a 50 dollar rebate going on as long as you buy before 3/5

Yes sir, same Remington number on the Wal Mart hang tag.  Strange.  Congrats on the new shotgun!

I bought the same gun at Walmart last fall. Put a Trulock choke in it, shooting the Fed. HW 7s and it shoots great and I'm very happy with it. Comes with the spacers for the stock but didn't use them. I hunted fall birds with it and when set up the little bit shorter stock was no issue. Nice little gun!

I bought the same choke but haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Do you happen to have a picture of your pattern?

Thought you fellows might be interested in this if you don't plan on having yours drilled and tapped

I don't have a picture of the pattern with the trulock but it put 153 and 155 in a 10 inch circle at, well I won't lie it was 38 yds not 40, but I will attest that it shoots a nice hunting pattern. I had it drilled and tapped and put a Nikon turkey scope on it.
