Just like the title says. Looking for a Buice trumpet. I know it might be a long shot but figured it was worth posting. If I don't find one on here I will call him. Thanks
Good luck, if you call and he has what you want in stock you can have it in a few days new. Be very surprised if you find one any cheaper than his asking prices, they hold their value as they are a top of the line trumpet.

That's what I figured. I don't really have anything in mind. Maybe some of the experts have some wood types they can recommend. I am new to this trumpet thing...
What's his contact information?

African blackwood, ironwood, and Cocobolo are my favorites and all look nice too

I have the Osage Orange. I am a big fan of the African Blackwood and cocobolo. Call Mr. Buice, tell him kind of what you want, and he can set you up, he is the expert.
I personally don't think you could go wrong with anything he makes. I have several of his boxcalls and trumpets and they are all great...
Billy won't build a call from Cocabola anymore.
If you call him and leave a message- be patient. He has a family issue that is keeping him busy right now.
sent you a pm

Thanks. I called him and left a message. I'm just waiting to hear back now. I appreciate all the information
good luck on getting one,i really love all the ones i have,i have a desert iron wood,an old growth lignum vitae, and a pink ivory.if i had to just pick one out of the ones i have it would probably be the pink ivory,it was an exceptional piece of wood he had put back for something special and forgotten about it,i had it made with a copper ferrell and an ivory cap,i also got #'s 2,3,and 4 mouthpieces made out of ivory for it.it is by far my most cherrished call i have, not only is it beautiful but it sounds amazing too,but all of the ones i have from him sound amazing.i would say just pick what wood that you really like the looks of and get that, you can be certian it will be an awesome sounding trumpet.

Andy I've heard of other callmakers not using Cocobolo anymore. What is the reason for this?
billy is allergic to it...
Cocabola, Rosewood and other similar oily, tropical woods contain quinones. The dust and oils can cause allergic reactions - respiratory and/ or skin issues. Breathing in or contact with the wood dust creates problems for quite a few folks.
Billy cannot turn Cocabola any longer as he is highly allergic to it.

Here's my favorite Buice trumpet. My buddy drenalinld on here bought some really nice Snakewood from Preacherman at Unicoi and sent it to Billy for him to make a couple trumpets. Good quality Snakewood is getting hard to find and Billy did not have any.

That's a purdy call right there! Very nice!
If a guy was wanting an African Blackwood from him, I'd say go ahead and get one. It is in the same family as rosewood and cocobolo.
Billy's ABW calls are super nice. This is an older one and it superb in tone and materials.
Man you guys are killing me. Beautiful trumpets!!!
Matched set of 100 year cut Claro Walnut trumpets- 5.5" and 6" I bought a big board and had Billy make 6 for me and friends as gifts.
Dandy callers.. Give Billy a call.
Mopane set - 6" trumpet and treecall.. Ivory caps and Mouthpiece on trumpet.. Wingbone MP on the tree call.. exquisite.
Matched set of Lignum Vitae trumpets from Billy. Anything he makes is good.

Purdy calls fellers!
So do his mouth pieces stay put considering they are compression fit? I see the one trumpet has some sort of lanyard connected to both sections.
Billy makes push in or screw in mouthpieces. I started out with push in mps and so all mine are that style. If I were starting over I would probably go with the screw in style. I have lanyards that attach to both the trumpet and mp to prevent loss.

Yes they stay in if you push in and twist. I do have something else attached to the mouthpiece for peace of mind. He also makes screw in mouthpieces.
Both of mine are the screw ins. Nothing worst than setting up on a gobbler and realizing the mp is gone. I'm sure the others stay in, it's just a peace of mind for me!
Now I wanna see some Buice cocobolo horns since he quit making them.
I can do this all day.... :TooFunny:
2007 Matched set of gorgeous Cocabola.. maybe one of the last sets Billy made in this wood.
1985 Buice Cocabola- white delrin flat mouthpiece- push in.
Early 80s Buice Cocabola and '94 Pink Ivory- push in mouthpieces..
Superbly figured 2006 Buice Teak trumpet. This one has been death on lots of Longbeards... I use this one every season..
Neat pics....do you have any of Billy's limited sets you could post? I have one,but haven't figured out or tried to post pictures.
I have both the 25 and 40th set.. Good lord willing, Billy will do a 50th set next year. Amazing that he has been making calls since 1968. He is a great friend and treasure..
Those are neat...mine has a scratch box, boxcall, trumpet, etc. Everything made from wormy chestnut....I need to call him,a true treasure of a person and callmaker.
Very nice AG
awesome pics fellows, one of these days i will learn to post pics,i could look at these all night.all my trumpets from him are the push in type, looking at these pics is making me itch for another, the next one i get i may get one of the screw in types.i just kept getting push ins because i have quite a few mouthpieces already and almost a whole set of ivory push ins, that i just kept ordering them that way,i have never had a problem with the mp"s coming out, they all fit great, but i do have a laynayd from del crow like the one in the pic that loops around the mp,(just incase)
I played a bunch of Billy's trumpets at Unicoi and they all were easy to play and sounded great....didn't have any money left so I couldn't buy one, but will some day.

Buice "Jamey style" of Cocus wood with sap... an extremely rare wood and unreal beautiful call. Ivory MP and she is a player..
Unbelievable piece of Ironwood Burl... Ivory MP- the photo does not do the call justice. Possibly the finest Buice call I own.
