Title: Striker Purchase Help Needed
Post by: HFultzjr on May 04, 2016, 09:25:37 PM
Ok,
I'm looking for something different to add to my striker collection.

IPE Hooks Gobble Stix or IPE Halloran
Yellowheart Hooks or Yellowheart Halloran

Calls I plan on using it on:
Crystal Mistress
Cherry Glass over Slate by Mike Yingling
Enticer Wet One in Cobian Pot
Light's out Copper Osage Orange
Dead End Slate (unknown wood)
Roost Wrecker (unknown wood)

Advantages vs. Disadvantage

IPE - Similar to what?
Yellowheart - Similar to what?

Would like to order from Midwest Turkey supply, as their shipping speed is fabulous.

Not too interested in other woods, unless you have a REALLY strong suggestion and as to why.

Thank you all for the advice.

Harold

:thanks:

Personal preference... I own both of the ones in hollaran. That's what I would go with. Hey are more forgiving than the hooks imo. I have the Ipe in hooks as well. I like it, I grab my hollaran. Yellow heart sounded good in my slates. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys.
I'm sort of leaning towards a Halloran Yellowheart.
Seems pretty popular.
Midwest Turkey Call has them, although I'll have to give them a call, as they state "Hickory" in the description of the yellowheart. Probably just a typo, but I want to make sure.

Blood and rosewood both run great on glass.

I love my yellow heart Halloran the least of the 3 pack you can buy with the Purple Heart, ipe and yellow heart. But I have friends that love the yellow heart. Just personal taste I guess. I love the ipe and I've always loved a good Purple Heart on most surfaces. Buy hickory is probably my go to striker. I just can run a Cody hickory on pretty much anything with confidence.

If you are ordering form Midwest...I'd get three or four of Dad's strikers...they are all well-made and run on just about every surface...

Yeah,
I was looking at Dad's Strikers.
Seems like they are pretty good.

Thanks.

I would look at Harold Folwer custom strikers.  He can also recommend different strikers for calls. I personal favorite is a Purple Heart.
