can you use a 870 3"mag barrel on a 870 3.5" super mag receiver ?
yes, you just cannot use 3.5" shells anymore, other than that there are no issues
yes have done it many times and if you choose to use a slug barrel they dont make a 3.5 inch slug barrel. just like is stated you can not use 3.5 inch shells
