thanks i have a zink power hen thunder ridge series and i do not care for the striker for it
Black locust or Dymondwood are the two best all around strikers on any surface in my opinion.
Purpleheart, dymondwood, hickory, black locust, persimmon
Wenge, Tulipwood and Dad's Charcoal Laminate also work well.
Different calls excel with different woods and different strikers of the same wood sound different on the same call... Experimenting is half the fun.
On slate I like; Purple Heart, yellow heart, Paduak, hickory, black locust & cedar.
Hickory or snakewood IMO
When it comes to slate, I'm a fan of hickory and black locust. I find black locust to be about optimal for most call surfaces. Lots of guys like the Dymondwood but I'm not a fan just yet. Not real sure why but I've found it to be just a bit touchy in terms of pressure and gripping the call surface.
Hickory is my favorite on slate but besides that I like rosewood and purpleheart. For soft talk I like a poplar two piece.
I like purple heart , persimmon and osage on most of my slate calls.
I carry, hickory & corn cob, blood wood & poison wood
