Title: Setting up a SBE2 - Any load suggestions?
Post by: Nate K on April 01, 2016, 11:12:53 AM
I am going to help my brother in law pattern a SBE2 he bought recently and was wondering if anybody had a few load suggestions for the chokes we have to try. I have a jellyhead max .660, IC .665, and RR .655 and he has an original jellyhead .660. The guy he bought the gun from had the forcing cone lengthened and the barrel ported by Rob Roberts. We have some 3 1/2" Hevi-6's, 3" Mag Blends, 3" and 3 1/2" WLB #5's that we are going to try. Just wondering if anyone had some load suggestions for the gun choke combos listed? I feel like we have a solid selection of chokes and should be able to find something that shoots in the 225 range at 40 yards. Thanks for any input you guys may have!

Been testing a few loads and chokes through my SBE2 this past week. I tried a .660 Jelly Head Max and a RR .655, with 3.5" Mag Blends, 3.5" #6 Long Beards and a Nitro or two that I bought for my old SBE. I was getting in the 220's with the RR with both shells, and pretty close with the Jelly Head. The Nitro's did around 220 also but out of my old SBE with Rhino .660 it will do 320+ every time.

I bet the IC .665 will be excellent in that gun. They usually are.  The longbeard #5's should do great. Mag Blends will probably do better through the RR.

I have run about every choke and shell out there through my SBEII. I put a 24" barrel on it btw.

The best pattern was with the RR 655 and mag blends. However where I am we have plenty of yotes so I opted for a slightly less dense pattern and the Trulock .650 and Fed HW 7s.

Out of what you have your RR and the 6s would be my best guess for best pattern and lethality.

If you can find a 660 Indian creek it's worth a try! Was awesome in my sbe2

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I am going to try to get out and shoot tomorrow evening after work. Excited to see what the Hevi-shot and Rob Roberts will do! I'll be sure to post pics under the benelli pattern pic thread

I have an original jelly head, it shoots everything well for the most part, numbers wise I would say mag blends were best but every shell I have tried from it was deadly to 40, the old original white hull hevi shot were my favorite, nearly as good as other 3.5 inch shells in 3 inch and very little recoil!
