Title: Favorite Harold Fowler Striker
Post by: model94 on March 22, 2016, 10:01:56 PM
I am looking to buy some Harold Fowler Strikers to run on my Crystal and Slate calls. What are your favorite Stikers by Mr . Fowler?  I Talked to Harold and he likes Red Brazilian Chestnut, Brazilian Ebony, Ipe, Ktalox, Dymond wood, and most of the Rosewoods.

Favorite strikers of his to me are his Snakewood, tulipwood, rainbow colored Dymondwood, my bud has Kingwood, Wenge, jatoba and Gabon ebon that are pretty awesome too. If I had to pick one though it's  the Snakewood. Had a rosewood that didn't suit me

First, I must say that Mr. Fowler might be the one of the nicest people in the turkey world that I have ever met.  A true gentleman.
I have several Fowler strikers.  Best there are in my opinion.  However, my least favorite is a hickory with a snakewood tip.  Sounds like nails on a chalkboard on any call I try to run with it.  I have a flared tip dymalux that is good, but no rasp to it (which is good sometimes).  Very nasal sounding.

One of my favorite Fowler strikers would be a one piece Ipe.  Runs on Slate, Copper, glass and crystal with no preference.

Can't go wrong with a purple heart stick either when toning it down and puring and clucking/soft yelping.
I also have a couple of his high end sticks that are crazy good.  One is a 3 piece Desert Ironwood/Carbon and Mammoth ivory tip (loves crystal).
Another is a 5 piece African blackwood, antler, carbon and fossilized walrus tooth tip.  It too is amazing on glass and crystal.

I have around 35 of Harold's strikers. A few of his five piece strikers and a few of his three piece strikers. That said, my favorite strikers I have from him for glass and slate are a Dymondwood and an Apitong.

My favorite Fowler for glass and slate is Ipe.  Always have that one in the vest.  Purple heart and dymondwood are always a good choice. His tulipwood runs great on most surfaces also.

I only have one so I have to say Osage top over snakewood, but I plan to get a few more in the future. Love it on my Loftis Screamer!

Thanks for all the replies.  I puchased a Crystal Mistress  and I am looking for a good match for his call. I have a Lights out Dymond wood and I do not care for how it runs on this call.

Thanks for all your input.  I purchased a dymondwood, Brazilian Ebony  and a purple heart striker from Harold.  He is an awesome guy to work with.
