I'm returning the Mossberg 20 gauge youth I bought my son as it has been a huge disappointment.
I will be picking up a 20 gauge 870 youth. Can anyone tell me a good choke and load combo for this gun? I'm leaning towards federal 2 3/4 inch heavyweights. I don't want the pattern to be too tight as I want him to have a little room for error and it is unlikely he will be shooting past 30 yards.
Thanks!!
If he's only shooting to 30 then just about any choke will work
Yes. I really liked the pattern from my Carlson's .575
Here is a pattern from 25 yards out of the same gun with a "deep cleaned" barrel.

For my daughter I set her 870 up with that same shell and a light-modified flush fitting choke. It will pile drive at 30, offers a great hunting pattern for a younger hunter at close ranges.

Hit up the search option above and search both the 20 ga and the 20 ga pattern section (870 choke). You will have more info than you can take in at one sitting.
