Post by: Gobbleandgrunt on February 20, 2016, 04:41:11 PM
I just ordered one of these. I heard it on Facebook. Any of you guys own or run this one in Nashville?

I ran one in Nashville. It was awesome. I didn't buy it like a big dummy because I already had his walnut slate. I couldn't take it anymore so I called him a few days back told him I was sick about leaving without it. I now have one one the way. Can't wait to get it.

Got one in Nashville with a persimmon striker. It rocks. You won't be disappointed.

Nice everyone. When I spoke to him, he said he was making them as quick as he can make them.

Yeah. I ordered mine last wed. Just gotta be patient. He said they are flying off the shelf. I just hope that he takes his time and make sure each one sounds as good as his first batch. With the overflow of orders , he may get in a rush to push them out.

I got mine today. Gonna have to play with it for a bit and figure out which strikers I prefer on it. Already notice the two piece that came with my crystal mistress makes the softest yelps I have ever heard and the Jatoba one piece from Del Crow sounds down right nasty on it. Probably going to try and only cary 2-3 strikers with my 2 pot calls but right now it seems I have two great sounding calls on opposite ends of the spectrum. I have 4 strikers to play with. The two already mentioned and a one piece Persimmon and One piece Purple Heart.

How does it compare to his other laminate slate?

$65 and comes with a one piece striker instead of 2 piece. My initial impressions are the one piece sound better. Im not a fan of the heavier top side of the two pieces but I am still learning.

Most people have been getting a persimmon or bloodwood striker with it. Mine came with a bloodwood striker but sounds better to me with his PH striker.

Mine came with his one-piece purple heart striker. Sounds pretty great, but still looking forward to trying the rest of my strikers on it to see what else stands out!

I picked up one at the Convention. I ran several of his strikers and the Hickory worked best for me.
This is a slate call you will love.

Wow, so impressive the fanfare this slate is getting this quickly. I wish I could order one and one or both of his  crystals, but unfortunately going to have to wait till next year  :'(

I don't want to high jack but, I'm going to order this call, the crystal mistress or twisted sister, this will be my first pot, and I can probably only swing one for a little while, any recommendations?

You can't go wrong with any of those choices. If it's your first pot call you may want to think about the double glass also. It's very easy to run and sounds great. Of the 3 you mentioned I'd probably go with the slate for a first pot.

i would go with the slate too, then like mentioned above the double glass,to me these two run easier and are alot easier to maintain, especially if it your first pot call.all his calls are great but i think these two would be alot easier for someones first, and they sound awesome too.

I found that my Crystal Mistress was harder to maintain, but also discovered that the two piece striker I was sent with it tends to wear the surface down much faster than the one piece flared tip strikers.  I also find that my CM is easier to get good yelps out of then the slate, but the one piece jatoba from Savduck makes my slate scream.  Its awesome
