Title: We patterned our guns...
Post by: Lonster on February 18, 2016, 06:27:28 PM
I called Rob Roberts at Gobbler Guns on Tuesday morning. He is a super nice guy and we talked for over thirty minutes about turkey guns/chokes. He is THE man when it comes to Benelli turkey guns (he does Benelli's custom turkey guns). I ordered Mrs. Lonster a choke for her new M2 20 gauge and ordered me a choke for my SBEII.
I was quite surprised when they arrived at lunch today. We are going to shoot them this afternoon and I will follow up with our results.

Shots were at 40 yards (used a rangefinder).

M2 24" barrel
RR .560
Federal HW 3" #7's
10" paper plate
102 pellets

SBEII. 24" barrel
RR .655
Heavy Mag Blend 3.5". #5,6,7
129 pellets

Win LB 3.5". #6
197 pellet

Were your shots centered on the plates?  Your numbers seem a bit low.  I would suggest using large paper, then cover the most dense part of the pattern with the plate and adjust poa/poi accordingly.

If you want good numbers with the Federal Heviweight #7 shot. Try a True lock choke built for that shot. My 3" gun will do 180 in a 10 at 40 all day. That Heviweight shot is nasty stuff.

And if you want to shoot the Hevi shot mag blends I have great results with a .660 rhino, my 3" gun will do 220 in the 10 at 40.

Those numbers are LOW.  My SBE II with a Pure Gold .670 and 3.5" mag blends breaks 200 @ 40 yards with boring monotony and 250 with 3.5/2.25/7 hevi.

You should be able to also get 130-150 with the 20 depending on whether the gun likes to shoot dirty or clean.

Ok guys I shot a much larger target and moved my sights so that my pattern was in the center of the target. 2 shots with the SBEII, 40 yards, 10" = 211 pellets and 210 pellets with the 3.5" Magblend 5,6,7

I can live with this.

Good deal,  with the 3.5 shells you should be doing better than the numbers you are getting.

That is much more like the numbers those shells are capable of laying down.

Good to go.  :icon_thumright:

Those are great numbers.  A good even pattern is what you're looking for.  Great job!

Those numbers are terrible.  Box those guns up and send them to me and I will get rid of them for you.
