Title: trumpet help
Post by: Spitten and drummen on February 17, 2016, 06:26:00 PM
I have been practicing with my trumpets daily since last june. I have gotten pretty decent and feel without a doubt I can call birds. I am wanting to improve of course. My problem is that my yelp seems too choppy. I need help and suggestions on extending the front end of my yelp. Any advise is appreciated.

Draw the air longer

Yeah , I try that but it rolls over too quick. I get a good 2 note yelp but it just seems I can't get the front end to drag before falling off if that makes sense

I draw the air all the way back to the back of my throat.

Have you been practicing kee kees?   When you can do good kee kees, you can hold that high front end as long as you need.

one exercise I do to increase muscle control (drawing air) is to hold the low note as long as I can, then do the same for the high note of the yelp.

this helped with getting good sounding yelps, putting together a string of good yelps, and kee kees

Thanks everyone. I will try these excersizes. It's a learning curve and man have I progressed. I will kill a bird with a trumpet this year. I keekeefair , cluck really well and my yelp is good. I just know it can be better. I hunt on a lease where no one uses a trumpet. Putting my time in learning it and will not dare tell anyone around. Hopefully it's going to be my secret weapon.

You've been giving several good suggestions.....imagine yourself breathing through the calls to lengthen your yelps.
