for a startn point i have heard that longer barrel guns like more open chokes and shorter barrels seem to go for tighter chokes, just askn for a startn point.... thanks russ

It has a lot to do with if your looking at the old type shotguns or today's new type with the screw in chokes and new type turkey loads a short barrel gun will shot circles around a longer barrel gun. I've got a 12 ga, remington 870 with a 21 inch barrel and at 20 yards with federal 3 in. 2 oz. 5's it will almost cut a 2x4 in half and out to 40 yards it's turkey bad...

Well Lucky i disagree with you...i will take my short barrel gun any day over a long barrel...Why do you think these people are buying these short barrel 20 ga, and with the right load and choke it will shoot with a 12 ga..

sorry guys didnt mean to start a fight,  i have a new, 2 season old, 1187 26in barrel and wantd to know if i should start with a more open choke or tighter choke......i have a ssx .550, a ic .555 and kicks .560....going to shoot the old time favorite lead 3inch shells...30yds will do me just fine...russ
