Title: X’ed one off the bucket list
Post by: chadly on December 20, 2015, 01:34:34 PM
The last few years I've wanted to shoot a deer with a pistol.  Last year I hunted with a pistol but had not done a lot of shooting with the gun so I limited my shot to 30 yards.  I never did get to take a shot.  This summer I did a bunch of shooting with the gun and felt much more comfortable up to 50 yards.  It happened so fast that I never did get my ear protection on before I shot.  Its almost been 24 hours and my ears are ringing still.  I shot her with a Smith & Wesson .44 mag model 29 at about 50 yards.

It was satisfying to fulfill a dream.  I love bow hunting and with a gun I almost feel like I'm cheating.  I wanted to hunt with the pistol to make it tougher on me but I also wanted to make sure I made the shot count.  I know the gun is capable of long shots.  However holding a little barrel still is an accomplishment.  Twenty plus years ago a friend of mine bought a Torus .44 with an 8+ inch barrel.  With a 3x9 scope on sand bags we could knock a bowling pin off the table at 100 yards every shot.  The .44's are straight shooters.  Minus the sand bags and add adrenaline of the hunt and the challenge is on.  We have our late muzzle loader hunt yet still to come.  We can use a pistol on this hunt.  I'm not sure which I will choose yet.  The long riffle might be easier but I love that gun.  Too many guns too little time.  Thank you Lord may I have another.

I have a smith 629, 44 mag performance center gun. Smith's are great revolvers, love em. In my state we can't use em. Good job wish I could try
