Title: favorite glass call
Post by: Spitten and drummen on August 16, 2015, 11:47:33 AM
Thinking about glass pot calls this morning. I want to know what custom call maker makes the best sounding glass call in your opinion. What wood for the pot and sound board. My choice so far is a Paul platz glass over glass in a walnut pot.

Lonnie Mabry.  Bronzed glass with cherry soundboard in a hackberry pot.  And his double glass in a walnut pot.  I'm a fan of the ole Roberts Bros pots too.

Right now these are my favorite 8 glass/crystal and in no particular order.

1. Lon Trice Black acrylic bronzed glass
2. Schaffer Mad Hen
3. Dawkins Walnut Crystal
4. Brad Roberts Poplar
5. Schaffer Blue Mahoe
6. Halloran Crystal Mistress
7. Dustin Jones Walnut Crystal
8. Lon Trice Clear acrylic glass

I have a feeling one of Al Shoemaker's Ambrosia Maple bronzed glass pots may also make the list whenever I get it from him.

I have Brad Robert's poplar glass, and it does indeed sound great, but his sycamore bronzed glass is sure a talker...it doesn't have to take a back seat to anyone.

I carry a little HS Strut Black Widow. Killed my longest spurred bird to this point. The way he came running anything would have killed him though, lol.

There isn't a glass call on this list I wouldn't love to hunt, but I came across this thread and had to add this to this list of best of the best.  This call flat out rocks, loud or soft.  Never leave home without it!

Perfection Turkey Calls. This call works as loud as a long box and soft as slate.  Absolutely love the corian pot, for me the weight gives me total control over the call.   :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

I've been using a Halloran double glass for a couple years. I like it a lot.
