Title: Pro Ears headband...
Post by: sixbird on June 12, 2015, 10:34:46 AM
Have been reading quite a bit about Pro Ears because I'm in the market for a new set of hearing devices thanks to a query on here about directional hearing. The ones I have are good but somewhat lacking in the area of directional hearing. They're not BAD mind you, but if I don't have them adjusted/balanced just right, I turn into a swivel head.
The primary complaint with Pro Ears seems to be, or at least has been, a weak headband. I sent an inquiry to the company about that issue. They said it's been addressed...They sent a vid. of testing. They claim over 80,000 stretches + (89,000) on the one they were testing  and they test one in every 100...I received an answer the next day after my inquiry and now today, received another email from Executive Vice Pres. with the vid. Great customer service at least before the sale...
I ordered a pair because of all the reviews that claimed great directional capability of the product...We'll see but so far, I like this company!

I have a set of Walkers muffs not sure exactly what they are called.. What makes Pro Ears better? Directional hearing is not so good with my Walkers and they are useless on windy days.. If the Pro Ears are better I would be interested.. Which model are you looking at?
Thanks

Greg, I've been using a pair of the Pro Ear Predator Series ear muffs for almost 20 years and I have no problem telling which direction the sound is coming from.   And I've had no problem with the headband.:OGturkeyhead:

I ordered the Predator gold...Just so you know, I don't have any experience with the performance of them. I'm just going by what other people say. Most say directional hearing is one of their strong suits. That would be a god send for me. I've had Walker Game ears for quite a few years and they've served me well. My hearing loss is severe so any enhancement is HUGE for me...That said, maybe 1/2 the time, I have to look at my hunting buddy and see which way he's looking or give him a shrug and wait for him to point...I'm hoping the Pro Ears will help, so I don't have to rely so much on either him or swiveling my head...

Well, as it turns out, the Pro Ears didn't fill the bill (for me)...The sound quality was VERY good but the volume capacity was way below what I need. In my best ear, it was sufficient (barely) but the other ear was as if I didn't have any enhancement at all.
As for directional performance, I can't really comment, because of the severity of  loss in one ear.
The above said, I think these would be excellent for someone with moderate hearing loss. I think it's a good product, just not for my particular situation...
An added comment regarding Optics Planet would be in order here...They are accepting return and paying return shipping even though the product isn't defective...I've dealt with them before and have been very satisfied with their prices and service...

I've found that the Predator Series model is the best for both directional sound and volume. :OGturkeyhead:
