Title: Macassar Ebony
Post by: MS on April 13, 2015, 03:17:22 PM
This is a poplar box with Macassar Ebony lid and base.  Marlin Watkins is the first call maker I know of to use Macassar Ebony for boxes, and having a few of his with this wood and having made a few myself, I see why he likes it.  Great sounding wood.  The pot call is also Macassar Ebony.  Prolly won't be turning any more of these due to high cost and because the wood splinters and catches badly on the lathe.  I went through two blanks before I finished this one.

Great looking calls and I more than understand what your saying on the pot. I had one split in half a fly of the chuck this weekend. I was not a happy camper.

i have a checkered box in that came wood combo that david halloran made last year,it sure is pretty.that wood must be high though,i bought a one piece striker in the macasser ebony a guy made and it was definatly a lot higher than his other woods, but it sure does sound sweet on a slate call...
