Gonna be chasing some Texas Rios in a week or so. The land I am hunting has a landowner-imposed 2 bird limit. The license I am buying has 4 tags...............
Is there any available public land within a reasonable distance of the 277 corridor in the San Angelo, Abilene, Wichita Falls area ??
Thanks !!
The relatively few WMA's in Texas all require drawings to hunt, and those are over. I don't know of any around the hill country. There isn't much public turkey hunting in Texas, and practically none in Rio country.
But if you find one, let me know cause I'll go every year! :toothy12:
I am beginning to see that public opportunity is nearly non-existent. Who sez everything is bigger in Texas ?? ???
I guess my backup plan/question would be this to whomever may have insight............ What might a fellow's chances be of gaining a day's permission on private land for a modest/reasonable trespass fee just on a walk-up ??
Well the areas you listed aren't considered Central Texas...
Ft Hood is public land in central tx, but you have to spend a half day getting registered to hunt it. And it's pretty high pressure.
Maybe ask the guy that you plan to hunt on, explain you understand his limit but would love to kill two more if he knows of any other land owners that might let you on.
PM sent.
Getting permission may be hard since so much of the land is leased for hunting. But it won't hurt to ask. "Texas Friendly" is more than just a motto. :icon_thumright:
You can hunt most of the corp of engineer property around lakes if there are any in that area.
