Helping out a friend I have aquired a Mossy oak 835 with 24 inch barrel. I ordered the longbeard .683 choke and will deep clean barrel. The question is if any one shot this combo with the longbeard shells and what size shot should perform well with that choke I like the nuber of shot in the 6s but with numbers I've been seeing posted I'd like to try the 4s
I have shot all three shot sizes in 3.5" long beards out of my 835 with 24" barrel and Carlsons long beard choke . With no deep clean or barrel polishing I'll try to list my results and hope this comes out right....
3.5" LB #6 2oz ------- 40yds------- 220-230 average hits in 10" circle
3.5" LB #5 2oz---------40yds------- 160-170 average hits in 10" circle
3.5" LB #4 2oz---------40yds------- 120-130 average hits in 10" circle
I have had better results with the Hevi-13 (.676) choke and my Indian creek choke. I've only tried the 6's with the long beard choke but my best patterns with long beards to date are:
3.5" #5 2oz--------40yds------- 224 hits in 10" circle with Indian creek choke. (Yes #5's) 70 degrees
3.5" #4 2oz--------40yds------- 166 hits in 10" circle with Hevi-13 choke. 65 degrees
The Hevi-13 choke performed best with 4's and the Indian creek performed best with #5's. Just a little info on my results in case you decide to try other other chokes. The long beard choke is a good choke but my patterns became more even with the chokes I mentioned while also putting up better numbers. Hope this is what you were looking for.
Pete... Which Indian Creek choke?
.675 restriction
Black diamond strike
All those numbers are great and sounds like I'll have a killer combo. I also have a kicks gt with it I'll try I got a box of 3.5 #5 to try out tomm. So ww will see what it will do
