Title: SBE 2 and IC .665 hevi-13 size???
Post by: brimmyfish on March 26, 2015, 09:58:40 PM
Which shot size Hevi-13's would you guys recommend for my setup. I would Like to shoot the 2 1/4oz loads. I am wanting a nice even pattern that work out to 40 yards or so. I've heard a lot of good things about the 7's but would I need a tighter choke for those? Or should I just go with the 6's?

Thanks in advance!

I have tried 6, 7, and mag blends.....I prefer the magblends. ...probably got a bad batch of 6'd but they were  horrible .....7's were very good just don't like small pellets and only 1090 fps....nice even pattern with blends

I have shot both 6's and mag blends with 28" barrel. I can't really provide any accurate numbers at 40 yds.

I'd recommend the 3" shells in #6 shot with that gun/choke. I routinely see more even and dense patterns with the 2 oz. load of those shells. The extra .25 oz. of shot comes with more recoil and many times a pattern that is not as even. The added recoil makes it more difficult to get back on target quickly and can also easily cause the development of a flinch.

Thanks,
Clark

Thanks for the responses guys. I went out today and found a box of 3 1/2" 6's. I fired two shots at 40 yards today and it was kind of windy. Ended up with 194 and 187 in the 10" circles. Looks like it should work pretty well for an old tom.

Today a friend of mine gave me a few longbeards to try. I was surprised at how well they shot. I'm planning on posting a new pattern thread in the patterns section later on today.

With that exact setup I'm averaging 280 in the 10 at 40 with 7s. Usually closer to 300. And they've absolutely wrecked every bird I've shot at. The 6s get me in the 230s. I prefer the 7s, but the 6s would have worked just as well for me.
